Twenty Year Partnership Benefits Central Louisiana Communities

For 20 years, Walmart, Sam’s Club and the Walmart Foundation have worked with Feeding America, local food banks, food pantries and meals programs to transform the charitable food experience. Since that time, Walmart and Sam’s Club have donated more than 9 billion pounds of food to the Feeding America network of local food banks and partner agencies since 2006.

The Food Bank of Central Louisiana is fortunate to partner with our Alexandria and Pineville Walmart stores and Sam’s Club and receive donations several times a week from each store. Walmart stores in our outlying parishes donate food to our partner agencies to serve their communities.

In the previous fiscal year, the Food Bank of Central Louisiana received and distributed more than 694,635 pounds of food from Walmart and Sam’s Clubs, which equates to half a million meals.

“As we pack the food boxes, we love to see the food donated from Walmart and Sam’s Club,” said Rhonda Lair, Mission Bag Production Coordinator at the Food Bank. “It’s a great mix of produce, meat, and bakery items., and often things people wouldn’t be able to buy for themselves.”

One of the most significant impacts of this donation program is the ability to distribute high-quality food that otherwise might not be available to the Food Bank. Meat, fresh fruits and vegetables, bakery items and dairy products are often expensive and difficult for our food bank to secure in large quantities. But thanks to the donations from the Alexandria and Pineville Walmart stores and Sam’s Club, these essential food items are available to individuals and families who need them most.

“We weigh, inspect, sort and distribute the food as fast as it comes in,” continued Lair. “It feels good to see the reaction from our neighbors when they see what’s in their box.”

The impact of these donations goes beyond the food itself. It’s a reminder that when businesses, nonprofits, and communities come together, we can make a real difference. The Walmart and Sam’s Club Retail Store donation program helps provide the essentials families need to survive and thrive.
